 100% Fluent

Congratulations to Bryce for becoming 100% fluent with his multiplication and division facts!! He has earned a spot on our classroom Wall of Fame. If you would like to know what percent your child is fluent ask them to log into Reflex and they can show you. Your child is always welcome to practice at home too! I look forward to adding more students to my Wall of Fame. 

Soil Fun

Students enjoyed making soil observations. 

Morning Show Guest

Micheal did a great job on the morning show this week! We have a few more students who will be guests in the next couple weeks. 

Math- We will continue our focus on fractions with mixed numbers. The students will have a quiz on Wednesday. We will also focus on plotting measurements to the nearest half and quarter inch on a line plot. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-   We continue to learn about the different text features in nonfiction (appendices, timelines, charts etc.) In writing, we will continue our text dependent analysis writing unit. This writing unit involves reading skills as well since students will learn how to analyze a text. 

Science-  We will focus on soil. 

Social Studies- We will focus on science.

Valentine's Day Exchange

Just a reminder we will exchange valentines on Monday. If your child would like to participate please make sure he/she has one for everyone in the class. We have 22 students.

We will learn about the different text features in nonfiction (appendices, timelines, charts etc.) In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. This writing unit involves reading skills as well since students will learn how to analyze a text.

 World Read Aloud Day

We listened to a lot of good books on Wednesday for World Read Aloud Day. Mrs. Enoch, Camdyn's mom, visited the class and read Couch Potato. 

Pet Rocks

I loved all the creativity put into the pet rocks! We had Mason, the Fireflies mascot, two ladybugs, pizza, and many more! 

M&M Fractions

We practiced our fraction skills with snack bags of M&M's. A yummy math lesson. 

Math- We will finish Chapter 10: Understanding Fractions with a test on Thursday. If you would like to learn more about what your child will be learning with fractions, please read the Chapter 10 Family Letter. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too.

Math- We will wrap up our focus on place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999 with a graded assignment on Wednesday. We will then move into Chapter 10: Understand Fractions. If you would like to learn more about what your child will be learning with fractions, please read the Chapter 10 Family Letter. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will continue to focus on inquiry skills this week by combining research on the Winter Olympics. In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. This writing unit involves reading skills as well since students will learn how to analyze a text. 

Science-  Your child's pet rock project is due on Tuesday, January 25th. They have to complete the rock the Google Form with questions about their rock. Students will bring their rocks into school on Thursday, January 26th and show them on the Meet Tuesday. 

Social Studies- We will be combining reading and social studies as students focus on the Winter Olympics. (countries, athletes, cultures etc.)

A Look Ahead

 We formed more "rocks" this week. Make sure you ask your child how Airheads and Lifesavers form a sedimentary rock.

Math- We continue to focus on lessons in the back of the workbook (additional topics) so we will not be in a specific chapter. The skills we are focusing on are place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999. The students will have the Math district benchmark on Wednesday. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will have the ELA district benchmark test on Tuesday. If your child is at home he/she will be able to take it at home. We will focus on inquiry skills this week. In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. 

Science- We will wrap up rocks and minerals with a test on Thursday. Your child was assigned a Pet Rock Project. Please ask your child to see the assignment. It is due on Tuesday, January 25th.

Rocks and Minerals

Students observed a "rock" and all the "minerals" in it this week.

Math- We will wrap up Chapter 9 with a quiz on Tuesday. We will focus on lessons in the back of the workbook (additional topics) so we will not be in a specific chapter. The skills we will focus on are place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will wrap up our focus on nonfiction text structures with a quiz on Wednesday. (problem solution, description, question and answer) 

Science- We will continue to focus on rocks and minerals. The students will be assigned fun, easy, creative project next week. Please look for the assignment to come home on Tuesday or Wednesday. 

Social Studies- We will focus on human features.
