Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone has a wonderful break! Be safe if you are traveling and enjoy the time with family and friends! 

I have two changes for assessments from the last blog post. The math test scheduled for Thursday, November 29th is going to be changed to Friday, November 30th. The science quiz scheduled for Friday, November 30th will be moved to the next week. (probably to Tuesday, December 4th)

Winter Wishes

We will be supporting Harvest Hope and families in need in Lake Carolina with our next service learning project called Winter Wishes. The students will be collecting food items for two weeks after winter break. (November 26th-December 10th) Our class is suppose to collect canned meat (ex. tuna, chicken etc) and every class can also donate peanut butter, jelly, Easy Mac, jar sauce and noodles.

Next Two Weeks


Native Americans
The students participated in different crafts that the Native Americans we were discussing in class were/are skilled at making. Autumn snapped a few pictures posted below.

Curriculum 
Math- We continue working in Module 2: Place Value and Problem Solving with Units of Measure. We will focus on lessons 18-21 and the students will have a test over Module 2 on Thursday, November 29thThe students are using the website below in class that can help them with their subtraction, addition, multiplication and division fluency. If they have time at home they can practice as well.

Language Arts- We will continue to focus on using text evidence when answering questions related to different types of texts. We will also practice using context clues when trying to figure out the meaning of unknown words. We will read Dear Juno from the reading textbook. We will continue discussing nouns (ex. proper, plural and possessive) and writing personal narratives. 

Social Studies- We are moving into early exploration in South Carolina. We will focus on several explorers including Hernando deSoto, Jean Ribault, Juan Pardo, William Hilton and Henry Woodward. 

Science- We continuing discussing water habitats. (ex. ocean, rivers, swamp, lakes etc.) The students will have a test over this material on Friday, November 30th.

Diamond Dell

The students had a great time mining for rocks and minerals in Diamond Dell's Gem Mine. We will soon be learning about rocks and minerals in science so this was a great way to get the students curious.

Next Week

Veteran's Day Parade
The class enjoyed the Veteran's Day parade. The chorus sounded great and it looked like everyone enjoyed their yummy breakfast. Happy Veteran's Day!







Welcome Chloe!
We welcomed a new student to our class this week! Chloe moved her from Texas. The students have done a great job of making her feel welcome. 

Think Tank

One piece of lumber was cut to 5 feet long pieces. Six cuts were made. How long was the piece of lumber? 

Curriculum

A Look Ahead

Report Cards
You will find your child's report card and MAP report in their folder. Please keep both items, sign and return the envelope. I am also sending home a copy of the notes from our conference. You may keep the sheet.

Honor Roll Recognition
If your child made the A or A/B Honor Roll they will be recognized on the morning show on Thursday. 

Think Tank
I had many students try the Think Tank this week and only a few paid close attention to the key details to complete it correctly. 
Xavier has 5 baskets that hold 15 pears total. Each basket has a different number of pears. How many pears are there in each basket? Most students recorded the answer as 3 pears. If you have time please review the problem with your child. We will discuss it on Monday.

Boosterthon
We had a great time at the Fun Run today! Glad we were able to have it outside!! Below are pictures from our pajama day yesterday.

Social Studies- We continue discussing Native Americans in early South Carolina. (Cherokee, Catawba and Yemassee)

Science- We continue discussing the Desert and Arctic Tundra. The students will have a quiz over this material on Friday
