A Look Ahead

 Math- We will start Chapter 10: Understanding Fractions. If you would like to learn more about what your child will be learning with fractions, please read the Chapter 10 Family Letter. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will continue to focus on inquiry skills this week by researching the Winter Olympics.  In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. This writing unit involves reading skills as well since students will learn how to analyze a text. 

Science-  Your child's pet rock project is now due on Tuesday, February 1st. They have to complete the rock the Google Form with questions about their rock. 

Social Studies- We will focus on Human Features.

A Look Ahead

Math- We will wrap up our focus on place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999 with a graded assignment on WednesdayWe will then move into Chapter 10: Understand Fractions. If you would like to learn more about what your child will be learning with fractions, please read the Chapter 10 Family Letter. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. ELA-  We will continue to focus on inquiry skills this week by combining research on the Winter Olympics. In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. This writing unit involves reading skills as well since students will learn how to analyze a text. 

Science-  Your child's pet rock project is due on Tuesday, January 25th. They have to complete the rock the Google Form with questions about their rock. Students will bring their rocks into school on Thursday, January 26th and show them on the Meet Tuesday

Social Studies- We will be combining reading and social studies as students focus on the Winter Olympics. (countries, athletes, cultures etc.)

A Look Ahead

 We formed more "rocks" this week. Make sure you ask your child how Airheads and Lifesavers form a sedimentary rock.


Math- We continue to focus on lessons in the back of the workbook (additional topics) so we will not be in a specific chapter. The skills we are focusing on are place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999. The students will have the Math district benchmark on Wednesday. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will have the ELA district benchmark test on Tuesday. If your child is at home he/she will be able to take it at home. We will focus on inquiry skills this week. In writing, we will start a text dependent analysis writing unit. 

Science- We will wrap up rocks and minerals with a test on Thursday. Your child was assigned a Pet Rock Project. Please ask your child to see the assignment. It is due on Tuesday, January 25th

Social Studies- We will focus on human features.

A Look Ahead

Rocks and Minerals

Students observed a "rock" and all the "minerals" in it this week.

Math- We will wrap up Chapter 9 with a quiz on Tuesday. We will focus on lessons in the back of the workbook (additional topics) so we will not be in a specific chapter. The skills we will focus on are place value, comparing numbers and ordering numbers up to 999,999. The students continue to use Reflex to strengthen their fluency with multiplication. They are welcome to use it at home too. 

ELA-  We will wrap up our focus on nonfiction text structures with a quiz on Wednesday. (problem solution, description, question and answer) 

Science- We will continue to focus on rocks and minerals. The students will be assigned fun, easy, creative project next week. Please look for the assignment to come home on Tuesday or Wednesday. 

Social Studies- We will focus on human features.
