Congrats and Rocks

Congrats to Autumn for reaching her personal goal! Who will be next?

Igneous Rocks
The students made igneous rocks today with ice cream and Hershey's Shell chocolate. The Hershey's Shell represented the melted rock which cooled and hardened. Igneous rocks form when lava or magma cool and harden. Hopefully this hands on activity will help the class remember how igneous rocks form.

Next Week

Friday Folders
Your child will not have a Friday folder today. I didn't have any grades ready to go home and there is nothing from the office.

Think Tank
If you are interested in this week's Think Tank question: A soccer team, The Tigers, have 4 girls and 8 boys. Another soccer team, The Lions, have twice as many players as the Tigers. How many players are there in all for both teams?

Congrats to Madeleine and Chloe for meeting their personal goals and ringing the school bell! Who will be next?

Read with the Gamecocks
These logs are due on Monday. Please make sure your child has added up all the pages before they turn it in to the media center. Thanks!

Geologists

The class tried to get all the "minerals" out of their "rocks" yesterday during science. I kicked off our rocks and minerals unit with this hands on activity to help the students remember that rocks are made up of one or more minerals (just like cookies are made up of one or more ingredients).

Winter Wishes
Thanks to everyone who has sent/brought in canned goods for our service learning project!! We have collected 210 items as a class so far!! The students are SUPER excited because we are close to being the top class! The top class will receive a pizza party. Monday is the last day to donate items. I have expressed to the class that Winter Wishes is all about giving and not being first, but now that we are so close I've become a little competitive. :)
