Valentine's Day

The students will have an opportunity to pass out Valentines on Tuesday. We will not be making boxes or bags to collect them in, but I will give the students a Ziploc bag to carry them home. If they want to bring something in that they made at home that is fine. 

Gullah Speaker
The students enjoyed listening to our Gullah speaker, Gervonder Brown (Island Gal), today. She discussed the Gullah culture, told the students Gullah stories and taught them some words in Gullah and their meanings.

She taught them how to say mind your manners in Gullah.

She showed them a sweet grass basket. 

Math Fun
The students used Legos one day this week while discussing fractions. 

Math- We will continue with Fractions in Module 5. Your child was assigned a Fractional Autobiography project which is due Tuesday, February 21st. 

Language Arts- The students continue writing their autobiography. We will also continue to read Revolutionary War on Wednesday. The students will have a quiz over chapters 1-5 sometime this week. I'm not sure of the day yet, but it will be open book. We are also continue discussing figurative language. (ex. similes, metaphors). The students will have a quiz on the mentor sentence we have been working on from the book My Brother Martin on Wednesday. 

Science- We will start discussing slow (weathering, erosion, deposition) and fast changes to the Earth (hurricanes, tornadoes, floods etc.)

Social Studies- We will wrap up our unit on the American Revolution with a test on Thursday. We will then move into Government.
