Disability Awareness Day
The students participated with the rest of 3rd grade today in a disability event. The event had stations the students rotated between so the they could get an opportunity to better understand how people with different visual, hearing, physical and learning disabilities live on a daily basis. We followed up with a discussion in class about disabilities too.

Next Week

Math- We are starting Module 2 on Place Value and Problem Solving with Unites of Measure. Next week we will focus on Time Measurement and Problem Solving. We will continue to review multiplication facts during our fluency portion of math each day. Please encourage your child to practice their facts at home through flash cards or games.

Language Arts- We continue focusing on making inferences and drawing conclusions with several different picture books and fiction passages. On Friday, the students will have a test on making inferences. The quiz will also have some comprehension questions from a fiction passage they are not familiar with to see if they can apply the skills we have been discussing in class. Our mentor sentence will come from When Lightning Comes in a Jar with the focus being on verbs.

Science- We continue focusing on the Temperate Forest Habitat. We will discuss food chains found in the habitat as well as adaptations that animals and plants use to survive in the forest.

Social Studies- The students will have a test over the six regions in SC on Wednesday. Students can use their Travel Pass located in their binder and their book to help them study. They also completed a Box It review sheet and should have a study buddy already in their binder.

A Look At Next Week

Congrats!
Great job, Taylor! She was the top 3rd grade girl for the Pacer Test for PE with 42 laps!

Book Fair
The book fair starts next week. We will go as a class on Tuesday morning.

Agendas-Homework
I am not checking to make sure your child is writing down their homework anymore. I feel like at this point the students should be responsible for making sure they write it down each morning. Just wanted to make you aware.

AdvanED Survey
This year, Richland School District Two is participating in the AdvancED Accreditation process. As part of this process, parents are asked to complete a survey. The purpose of this survey is to find out your opinions about your child's school. The survey also allows the district to learn more about parent expectations for our schools.
Please CLICK HERE to complete the survey or click on the parent survey link at the top of the Richland Two home page at WWW.RICHLAND2.ORG. We ask that you complete the survey as soon as possible. Your cooperation and support in completing the parent survey is greatly appreciated.

Math- We continue working with Multiplication and Division. The students will have a test over Module 1 on Thursday

Language Arts- The students will have a quiz over Main Idea on Tuesday. We will move into focusing on making inferences, drawing conclusions and predictions with different fiction and nonfiction passages. Our Mentor Sentence will come from The Name Jar. The focus will be on proper nouns. We will also continue doing some free writing, so I can get an idea of where my students' strengths and weaknesses are with writing. They have loved writing about whatever they want! :)

Science- We continue with Habitats and will focus on Temperate Forests.

Socials Studies- We will continue learning about the climate, economy, physical features and other important facts about the six regions in SC.  The students will also pick one region to elaborate on by creating a poster or brochure.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Amazing Me Day Extended

We are extending the deadline for our Amazing Me Day from Sept. 22 to October 13th.  Based on recent feedback, we feel that postponing the deadline will increase the amount of involvement and participation, and we want EVERY child at Upper Campus to have the opportunity to share what makes them AMAZING! Our gallery walks will be October 13th between 9:30-11:00 am. We are looking forward to this community-building experience for our students.  Thank you for your understanding and flexibility!

A Look At Next Week

MAP Reading
MAP Reading went well yesterday. MAP Math will be on Tuesday morning.

Parent Teacher Conferences
I sent out an email with a link to sign up for a conference on Wednesday. Please sign up when you have a minute to look at your schedule.

Friday Folders
There are a lot of papers in your child's folder. I put all the papers from the office in one side and the graded papers on the other. Please sign and return the graded papers and look through all the other ones. There is a reading log in there for a USC Clemson Reading Contest. This log is due by October 28th.

Math- We continue working with Division and Multiplication. They will have a quiz on Thursday. I will be starting "Fast Facts" soon. Fast Facts are basically timed multiplication "tests". They will not be graded. The students will start with their 0-2's and as they pass will move on to the next number. If you have flash cards at home now would be a great time to work with your child on practicing their facts. They only have to know 0-10's fluently in third grade, but I will be testing them through the 12's.

Language Arts- We will continue working on Main Idea next week.  We did not get to our new mentor sentence this week from Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon so we will do that next week. The focus is on nouns, irregular nouns and plural nouns. The students will also pick a topic from their writing notebook to write about and elaborate on.

Science- We will wrap your our discussion on Grasslands with a test on Friday. Your child will have a Study Buddy come home next week with topics they need to know for the test. They can use their book, notes in their binder and science composition notebook to help them study.

Social Studies- We will focus on the six regions in South Carolina. We have a trick to remember them in order from the Northwest part of our state to the Southeast...make sure you ask your child about the trick. :)

Have a FANTASTIC weekend! Hope you football teams wins!

Tricky Think Tank Question

I have had a Think Tank question up for about a week and about half the students tried to answer it correctly. Unfortunately, no one got it right. :( It isn't a hard question, but a tricky one. Many students said the answer was 42 so they are good at multiplying!! :) Do you know the answer? Maybe it would be a good problem to figure out at dinner tonight.

To make a flag of the United States of America, you need 3 different colors of fabric. How many colors of fabric do you need to make 14 USA flags?

Amazing Me Day
Please look for a green sheet in your child's Friday folder explaining the Amazing Me Day and project. If your child could tell me what their topic is going to be by Wednesday, September 7th that would be great! Let me know if you have any questions about this special day!

Math- We continue working in Module 1, Multiplication and Division. The students will have a quiz over lessons 11-13 on Friday.

Language Arts- We will focus on finding the main idea in short nonfiction passages using key details. Our Mentor Sentence for the week comes from Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon with the focus being on nouns, irregular nouns and plural nouns. We will also have MAP Reading on Thursday.

Science-We continue looking at food chains in the grasslands. We will also discuss the process skills of inferring, predicting and observing.

Social Studies- We will touch on SC Symbols and than move into the regions of SC. Information on a region project will be coming home either the end of next week or the following week.

Have a nice long weekend! Stay dry and safe!
