A Look Ahead

Friday Folders

Your child is coming home with a Friday Folder. Please ask your child for the folder, look through the folder and send back on Monday. Thanks!

Media Center

Students attended their media center orientationon today. They love that the media center has 2 floors! Your child can check out up to 3 books at a time. Third grade is able to check out new books on Monday and Thursdays. Students are not able to take Reading Counts tests yet.

Chromebook Insurance

Please read the Communigator post about purchasing insurance for your child's chromebook. Please make sure you follow the school blog (Communigator) for important information. You can click on the Follow this Blog button on the top right corner to receive and email when the school posts information.

Curriculum

Math- We will focus on multiplicaiton strategies in math. We will completed lessons 1-4 in Chapter 1 and started Chapter 2 today. We will have a math test over multiplication on Friday. Your child is welcome to take home his/her math workbook to practice the different lessons we have done, but I have not assigned homework. If you would like more information about that, please let me know. If you would like more details about what your child will be learning, please read the Chapter 1 Family Letter and Chapter 2 Family Letter. (They are linked.)

ELA- We will review affixes (prefixes and sufixes) and move into the skill of using context clues to figure out the meaning of words. I continue to read one on one with students to check for fluency and comprehension. We will start writing personal narratives.

Science- We continue to focus on Plant and Animal Habitats.

Social Studies- We continue to focus on Mapping Skills.

A Look Ahead

Growth Mindset- The Power of Yet

We discussed how some things in third grade might be challenging at times, but we will have a growth mindset by being positive, continue to try and learn from our mistakes. We also discussed that we might not understand something immediately so we would say something along the lines of "I do not understand multipliction yet".

Curriculum

Math- We will focus on multiplicaiton strategies in math. We will complete lessons 1-4 in Chapter 1 and move into Chapter 2. Part of Chapter 1 is on division strategies, but we will not focus on that part of the chapter yet. If you would like more details about what your child will be learning, please read the Chapter 1 Family Letter and Chapter 2 Family Letter. (They are linked.) We will take the MAP Math test on Wednesday.

ELA- We will focus on affixes (prefixes and sufixes). We will discuss choosing "just right books" when independently reading. I will also start reading one on one with students to check for fluency and comprehension. The studnets will also be doing some creative writing next week. We will take the MAP Reading test on Tuesday.

Science- We will focus on Plant and Animal Habitats.

Social Studies- We will focus on Mapping Skills.
