A Look Ahead

Tall Teacher Farewell 
The students said goodbye to their Tall Teachers on Tuesday with a small celebration. We all gained so much from working with these fabulous USC students!

Curriculum
Math- The students will have a quiz, on Tuesday, covering everything we have done with Fractions in Module 5. We will then move into Module 6 on Data Analysis. We will also spend some time reviewing math standards for the upcoming state test. (SC Ready) The math portion of SC Ready is on Friday, May 17th. The students are using the website below in class that can help them with their subtraction, addition, multiplication and division fluency. If they have time at home they can practice as well.

Language Arts- We will continue to analyze texts and practice analyzing when writing. We will also focus on the skill of cause and effect. We will also start to review all language arts standards for the upcoming state test. (SC Ready) The students will have their ELA tests on Tuesday, May 14th and Wednesday, May 15th. 

Social Studies- We will continue our unit on the Civil War. 

Science- We will continue to focus on Matter (three states and changing states)

Week After Spring Break

MAP Math
The students did well on MAP Math this week. Many met their goal and everyone went up from the fall! We are done with MAP and will be focused on State Testing in May.

Curriculum
Math- We are working in  Module 5 on Fractions. We will focus on lessons 11-15. The students are using the website below in class that can help them with their subtraction, addition, multiplication and division fluency. If they have time at home they can practice as well.

Language Arts- Tuesday after break will be the last time the students work with their Tall Teacher from USC. I know they have really enjoyed the opportunity to work with their Tall Teacher this year.  They have learned a lot and so have I. We are going to review analyzing texts. Science- We will start focusing on Matter. We will focus on the three states of matter and changing states of matter.

A Look Ahead

MAP Testing
The students did well on MAP Reading this week. We have MAP math on Tuesday morning. Please make sure your child gets a good night's sleep and eats a good breakfast. 

Report Cards
Please keep your child's report card, but sign and return the envelope. Thanks! 

Curriculum

Language Arts- We will finish up Figurative Language and poetry this week with a test on Thursday. (idioms, similes, metaphors, personification etc.) We will also continue writing opinion pieces. 

Social Studies- We will start out unit on the Civil War. 

Science- We will wrap up landforms this week and move into Matter. The students will only have a classwork grade for landforms instead of a quiz or test.
