Congrats!!

Congrats to Caiden and Carson for mastering their multiplication facts!! They are now on the Wall of Fame! Who will be next? 

A Look Ahead

Fireflies Reading

Your child will receive a Fireflies reading log on Monday. They will have until March 23rd to complete it. They need to read one grade level appropriate book per base in order to complete the reading log. Let me know if you have any questions when you look at the log on Monday. 

Curriculum
Math- We will do a couple days of working with elapsed time and then move into Module 5 on Fractions. 

Language Arts-  We will focus on Cause and Effect. We will be reading Amazing Grace from the reading book. We will also continue working on nonfiction writing pieces and cursive. The students will have a test over Amazing Grace on Friday.

Science-We will wrap up our unit on Soil with a test on Thursday.

Social Studies- We continue with our unit on Government (State and National). 

*We will also start reviewing some for MAP Reading and Math which we will take in late March. 

Edible Soil

Students followed a recipe today to make edible soil with four ingredients. After making the soil they had to figure out what each ingredient represented by using evidence from a close read we have been working with on soil. Afterwards they had to find the main idea of the recipe and what the details were. Of course, the enjoyed eating their soil! 

Next Week

Soaking the Soil

We tested different types of soil to see how much water each type can hold and recorded our findings. 

Ideal Bedroom

The students are working on designing their ideal bedroom and finding the area of each object. They might try to persuade you to let their dreams become a reality! :)

Curriculum
Math- We will move into Module 7. We will only focus on the Perimeter part of this module and then return to it at a later date for the Geometry portion. The students will have a quiz over this on Friday. 

Language Arts- We will continue to dig deeper into analyzing texts. Our focus on analyzing texts will help with the TDA (text dependent analysis) that the students will complete for the state test in May. 

Science-We continue studying Soil.

Social Studies- We will begin our unit on Government. 

Big Universe Question

Mrs. Ryan, Media Center Specialist, started posting Big Universe questions on the media center website. Students have a week to answer the question and they have to use books on Big Universe to find the answer. Kami got the first question right and was chosen to receive a free Book Fair book!! Let's see if someone from our class can get the next one right and be picked for the next prize.

Next Week

Observing Soil

Who knew playing with soil could be so much fun?? The students made some observations about different types of soil this week. 

Book Fair
We will be going to the Book Fair as a class on Tuesday. If you child would like to purchase items from the Book Fair, please send money with them on Tuesday.

Friday Folders
I didn't have any grades to put in the folders, so I didn't send them home. I did pass out basketball tickets to the students who turned in their Read with the Gamecock log so please look for those in your child's binder. 

Talent Show
The 3rd-5th grade Talent Show is Tuesday night at 6:30pm. We have two girls performing, Mari and Eva, and two girls hosting, Delaney and Paige. Good luck!!

Pet Rocks

LOVED all the pet rocks! Very creative! 

Curriculum
Math- We continue in Module 4 on Multiplication and Area. The students will have a quiz over lessons 5-9 on Wednesday.

Language Arts- We will continue discussing how to find the Main Idea in passages/texts.  We continue writing informative pieces. We will also be completing a District Writing Assessment on Text Dependent Analysis (TDA). 

Science-We will be studying Soil. The students will also be writing an autobiography from their pet rock's point of view. 

Social Studies- We continue discussing the American Revolution and will wrap up with a test on Friday. We will have a Gullah Speaker on Tuesday.
