Next Week

New Student
We welcomed, Jayden Shepard, to our class this week. Jayden moved here from Delaware. 


Valentine's Day
We will be passing out Valentines on February 14th. If you child would like to do so they need to make sure they have one for every person in the class. I will email a class list next week. We have 23 students in our class. We will not be throwing a Valentine's party. 💜

Math-
We continue working in Module 5 on Fractions. The students will have a quiz over lessons 1-4 on Wednesday.

Language Arts- The students will start writing their own Autobiography, focusing on one main event in their life. They may be asking your for specific dates of important events in their life and possibly pictures. More information to come...

Science- We are moving into land forms and water features. 

Social Studies- We continue to discuss the American Revolution.

Fraction Strips

The students made fraction strips today during math. They should stay in the envelope in their binder, unless they are using them, during this module. They are a good manipulative to have when completing homework. :)

Soaking the Soil

We tested soil today to see which type held water the best (sandy, silty or clay soil). Make sure you ask your child what the results were!

Last Full Week of January

Report Cards
Your child's report card is in their Friday Folder. Please keep the report card, but sign and return the envelope. 

Box Tops
Please save and send in your Box Tops. Check your child's Friday Folder for more information. Please make sure you cut each Box Top on the dotted lines. 

Math- We will wrap up Module 4 on Area and Multiplication with a test on Tuesday. We will start Module 5, Fractions as Numbers on a Number Line. I will send a parent tip sheet via email soon.

Language Arts-We will discuss point of view and will be reading the story "Author A True Story". The students will have on this story on Thursday.The students will also start writing their autobiography. 

Science- We continue learning about different types of soil. The students will have a test on Soil on Friday.

Social Studies- We continue learning about the American Revolution.

Soil Observations

Students observed different types of soil today. They described how each looked and felt.

Pet Rocks

LOVE the pet rocks!! The students were so creative in "creating" their pet! We had everything from an Emoji to an ant. They will be on display in our classroom for awhile and I hope to have them do some creative writing about their rock.

Next Week

 Class Pictures
Please look for an order form in your child's Friday Folder about class pictures. They will be taken on February 1st. 

End of 2nd Nine Weeks
Today marked the end of the second nine weeks!! So hard to believe the school year is half way over! Report cards be sent home next Friday. 

Math- We continue learning about Multiplication and Area. The students will have a quiz on Wednesday. 

Language Arts- We continue to identify themes in stories. We are going to start learning how to write in cursive. We continue to focus on text dependent analysis as well. 

Science- We will discuss and learn about different types soil. Pet Rocks are due on Tuesday. 

Social Studies- We continue to learn about the American Revolution.

Metamorphic Rocks and Fossil Frank

We formed some metamorphic rocks in science yesterday with Starbursts!! Make sure you ask your child how they are formed.

A Look At Next Week

Friday Folder
The only paper in your child's Friday Folder is a MAP goal sheet. Please look over it, sign it and return in the folder. Let me know if you have any questions. 

Sedimentary Rocks
The students formed sedimentary rocks using Airheads and Lifesavers...make sure you ask them why we used these items.

Math
- We continue to discuss Multiplication and Area in Module 4. 


Language Arts- We will focus on finding Theme in different stories. The mentor sentence for the week will come from "Spaghetti in a Hot Dog" which focuses on possessive nouns and pronouns. We will also continue to work on text dependent analysis. (using evidence in passages to answer questions)

Science- We will finish up our unit on rock and minerals with a test on Friday. Fossil Frank will be visiting to talk to the third grade on Tuesday. Your child was assigned a Pet Rock Project that is due Monday, January 17th. Information about the project should be in your child's binder. 

Social Studies- We are finishing up Colonial Times with a test on Tuesday. The students have learned a lot of new information during this unit. They have notes, sheets, a box it and their book they can use to study.

Igneous Rocks

Yum! Make sure you ask your child how an igneous rock forms. Students created igneous rocks using ice cream and magic shell chocolate. Who knew science could be so yummy!
