A Look at Next Week

Crazy Sock Day!!!


Math- We continue to work with fractions. We will learn how to place them on a number line. Math Newsletter 1 and Math Newsletter 2

Language Arts- We will be reading "Tales of the Trickster". The students will have a test over the story on Friday. We will focus on comparing and contrasting. We will also focus on cause and effect with science and social studies. 

Science- We will be talking about slow and fast changes to the earth. (erosion, weathering, deposition, tornadoes, landslides etc.)

Social Studies-We have moved into Chapter 5 on the American Revolution. 

Happy Valentine's Day
If your child is interested in passing out valentines on Friday, February 12th, I will send a class list via email.

Class Picture Order Form- Due by Feb. 3rd (day of pictures)
Boosterthon Fun Run Envelope- Pledge money is due by January 28th. 

Math- We continue to learn about Fractions. 

Language Arts-  We will read the story "Dear Juno" this week. We will also continue focusing on using text evidence to support answers when reading and writing about different passages. 

Science- We will wrap up soil with a test on Wednesday

Social Studies- We will wrap up Colonial Times with a test on Tuesday. The students completed their Study Buddy in class today.

Boosterthon Fun Run

Tomorrow is the Boosterthon  Fun Run and tonight is the last night to get pledges! Third grade will run at 8:30am in the multipurpose room. Please remind your child to wear tennis shoes and comfy clothes. We were working on our flag today!! Judith came up with our name, Rataiczak's Rockin' Runners, and we incorporated ideas from flag designs by MollyJane, Bennett and Khushi.

Next Week

Ideal Bedrooms...
Did anyone's child present you with their plan for their new and improved bedroom? They really enjoyed creating an ideal bedroom while finding the area of each object. Interesting ideas!

Math- We will start out unit on Fractions, Module 5. Math Newsletter

Language Arts- The students will focus on using text evidence to support their answers when reading and writing about different passages. They will also finish writing their Pet Rock Biographies. 

Science- We continue to study Soil. Thank you to all the parents who offered to donate items for this unit! If you signed up, please send your item to school with your child by Tuesday. 

Social Studies- We continue to discuss Colonial Times in South Carolina.

Observing Soil

In class we are studying about soil. We observed three soils and drew what they looked like without a hand lens and then with a hand lens. Last, we got to describe what the soils looked like and described how they felt.

A Look at Next Week...

Favorite Part of the Week...
My favorite part of the week was when we got to go around the room and look at 
other people's pet rock.

In art we created flowers and drew them with our made up shapes. They looked good at the
end. 
-Mitchell

Math- We will wrap up our unit on area with a test on Wednesday. We will review and the students will create their ideal bedroom and find the area of all the fun stuff they choose to put in their room. Should be interesting! 

Language Arts- The students will have a test over "Boom Town" on Tuesday. We will discuss biographies and the students will write one for their Pet Rock.

Science- We will start learning about different types of soil. 

Social Studies- We will continue learning about Colonial Times in South Carolina.

Pet Rocks

This is our pet rock project. We created anything we wanted. I liked this project because we got to do anything we wanted. My other reason is that you could be creative. Mine has a jersey that is blue and black and has a soccer ball in his hand. His name is Trenton.
