A Look Ahead

 Gator Games

Gator Games is on Tuesday! I know the students coming in are excited. It will be a busy day and hopefully your child will sleep well Tuesday night. Please try to drop your child off as close to 8 am as possible Tuesday morning so he/she can make a flag and get settled before we start at 8:45am. Please refer to the Gator Games Information in your child's Google Classroom or in the email I sent out on Thursday as to what your child needs for the day! I will take lots of pictures to share! 

Curriculum


Math
-  We started Chapter 15 today in math. We will focus on Perimeter and Area. We will have a graded assignment on ThursdayPlease encourage you child to practice their math facts 
They can use flashcards or the following website: Math Trainer

ELA-  We continue reading the book Lemonade War. We will focus on chapters 8-11 next week. We will finish reading the book the last week of school. If your child is virtual and has a copy it will need to be returned to the school when we finish. The students will also continue learning how to write in cursive.

Science- We will not focus on science. 

Social Studies- We will focus on the regions of South Carolina. The students will have a graded assignment on Friday.

A Look Ahead

Media Center News

All media center books are due on Friday, May 28th. If your child has a copy of Lemonade War checked out, he/she can keep it until we are done with the novel. 

Schedule Change for Tuesday

Fourth grade will be taking SC PASS for science on Tuesday so our schedule will be a little different. The class will have related arts from 9:45-10:30 instead of our normal time at 1:00. We will still break for lunch/recess at 11:30 and return at 12:15. 


I enjoyed having several more students join us this week for SC Ready. We celebrated their hard work with popsicles on the patio outside of the media center. I also snapped an "almost" class picture. Wish we were able to get a picture with all 20 students. 





 

Curriculum


Math
-  We continue disucssing Chapter 14: Represent and Interpret Data this week. We are focusing on pictographs and bar graphs. Your child will have a test on Thursday. If you would like to read more about what your child will do in this chapter, please read the family letter Please encourage you child to practice their math facts 
They can use flashcards or the following website: Math Trainer

ELA-  We continue reading the book Lemonade War. We are reviewing several reading skills (inferring, predictions, summarizing etc.) while we are reading.  Students either have their own copy or are following along/reading with a virtual copy. The students will have a quiz over chapters 1-7 on Friday. The students will also start learning how to write in cursive.

Science- We will focus on Transer of Electrical Energy (insulators and conductors). 

Social Studies- We will not focus on social studies.

A Look Ahead

Google Meet Reminder

If your child is a virtual student please make sure he/she is logging on on time in the morning (9:00), after lunch (12:15) and after related arts (1:50). When your child logs on late he/she misses instruction and it can be a disruption to the class. If your child misses any instruction he/she can watch the video of myself teaching. 

Curriculum

Math-  We started Chapter 14: Represent and Interpret Data this week. We are focusing on pictographs, bar graphs, line plots and how to measure to the nearest inch, half inch and quarter inch.If you would like to read more about what your child will do in this chapter, please read the family letter If your child is virtual, it would help if they have access to a ruler on Monday and the rest of the week. Please encourage you child to proactice their math facts They can use flashcards or the following website: Math Trainer

A Look Ahead

Reading Counts

Congrats to Ava for earning 100 points for Reading Counts!! The last day to earn points for Reading Counts rewards is May 21st.

Hands on Math 

Students worked with different quadrilateral pattern blocks and made quadrilaterals on geoboards.  




Curriculum

Math-  We will focus on a couple additonal topics (in the back of the workbook) focusing on three dimensinal shapes and nets. The studnets will have a graded assignment on quadrilaterals (Chapter 13 lessons 1-4) on Tuesday. We will also review math standards for state testing. encourage your child to practice their multiplication facts. They can use flashcards or the following website: Math Trainer

ELA-  We will wrap up our focus on different text structures (problem/solution, question/answer, description) and comprehending texts with these structues with a quiz on Wednesday. We will also start reviewing for state testing. In writing, students will wrap up their nonfiction books. They will be due on Thursday. 

Novel Study: We will be doing a novel study with the book The Lemonade War. We will start on Thursday. If your child is virtual he/she will have access to a digital copy. If you would like for your child to have a papeback copy, please let me know and they can check a copy out with the media center for you to pick up. It will need to be returned when we are finished. 

Science- We will continue to focus on weathering, erosion and deposition. We will also use science time to review for state testing.

Social Studies- We will not focus on social studies next week.
