A Look Ahead

3rd Grade Parent Orientation

Orientation for parents is on Thursday, September 5th from 5:30-6:15 or 6:30-7:15. Hope you are able to attend. If you are not able to come, please let me know and I will make sure I provide you with the information you missed. 

College Colors
The class looked great today in our college colors! 

Media Center
The students had media center orientation this week with Mrs. Medlock. They are able to check out two books at a time. Reading Counts isn't up and running yet, but I will let the students know when it is available.

Curriculum

Math- We started with Module 1 in Eureka Math. Module 1 covers Properties of Multiplication and Division.

Language Arts- We continue to focus on questioning before, during and after reading stories. We will also focus on how characters' traits, motivations and feelings contribute to the development of the plot in stories. We will start our writing unit on personal narratives. I will continue to conduct reading conferences with each student to get to know them better as a reader.  

Social Studies- We will wrap up our discussion on geography with a quiz on Thursday. (compass rose, continents, oceans, what borders South Carolina, our country etc.) We will start learning about the different regions in SC. 

Science- We will continue discussing adaptations that plants and animals have in the Grasslands and look at food chains as well. 

A Look Ahead

Friday Folders
Your child is coming home with their green Friday Folder today. This folder will come home each Friday. It may include flyers from the office, important information and assessments. Please look through the folder each weekend and send it back to school with your child. 

Parent Letters 
I've enjoyed reading the letters I have received about the students in my class. I have already noticed some of the things you have said are your child's strengths and weaknesses. Thank you so much for sharing! I look forward to reading more.

We have Chromebooks!
The students set up their Chromebooks in computer lab on today. We will start using them in class soon. The students are aware of the Acceptable Use Policy and I know they will be great leaders and adhere to it so they can use their Chroembooks in class. 


Saving Sam
Students worked together to try and "Save Sam". Ask your child about "Saving Sam" for more information. 

Curriculum 

Math- We started with Module 1 in Eureka Math. Module 1 covers Properties of Multiplication and Division.  We will have a quiz over lessons 1-3 on Friday. I will email out a Math Tip Sheet that you can look at to see what we will be covering in this module.

I will also be conducting reading conferences with each student to get to know them better as a reader.
