We used our Chromebooks for the first time today as a class! The students reviewed for their Geography quiz tomorrow using the website Kahoot. The students were given a question with several answers to choose from and they used their Chromebooks to pick the right answer. Fun way to review!

I look forward to seeing everyone at Parent Orientation tomorrow night from either 5:30-6:15 or 6:30-7:15.

A Look at Next Week

The first few days of third grade have gone smoothly. Next week we will start diving into curriculum in every subject. Your child will also have math homework pretty much every night going forward. Please remind your child to check their agenda and binder for homework. The binder should come home every day. Please do not remove papers from your child's binder if it is behind a tab! We will refer to these notes/papers throughout the unit we are covering at that particular time.

Your child is coming home with a Friday Folder (green folder). This folder will come home every Friday with papers from school and eventually their tests/quizzes from the week. Please look through the folder this weekend and send it back with your child on Monday. Thanks!

Math- We will start with Module 1 in Eureka Math. Module 1 covers Properties of Multiplication and Division. We started Lesson 1 today and your child has the work from lesson 1 in their binder behind the math tab. We will have a quiz over lessons 1-3 on Wednesday. If you are interested in what this module entails click on Math Tips for Parents.

Language Arts- Our story for next week will be Amazing Grace. The story can be found in your child's reading book. We will focus on story elements and character traits.

Social Studies- We are discussing Geography. We will focus on the 7 continents, oceans of the world and states that border South Carolina.

Science- Our first nine weeks focus is on Habitats. We will discuss different habitats focusing on adaptations, food chains, and other characteristics. We will start with the Grasslands.

The students worked with a partner to Save Fred. Fred is a worm whose boat capsized and he is stuck on top of it with his life preserver in his boat. The students had to work together to get Fred back in his boat with his life preserver on using 4 paper clips. They were not allowed to touch Fred, his boat or his life preserver with their hands...only the paper clips! We had some teams Save Fred!!!
Poor Fred!

Sulli and Moica saved him!
Joseph, Shane and Gabe saved him too!
