Live Webcast

The students really enjoyed the Live Webcast we watched today with the author of the Dairy of a Wimpy Kid books, Jeff Kinney. He discussed how he creates his books and illustrations and also revealed the new cover and title of his next book...Double Down...which comes out November 1st. The students were sad that they have to wait so long, but they enjoyed the webcast!

Mrs. Rataiczak's Cooking Company

Students have been designing a pot for my customers!! My customers need one that conducts heat, but doesn't burn their hands. Students used what they had learned about heat to create the ideal pot! They also had to describe their pot to me in a way that would persuade me to pick their pot as the winner!! I gave out some awards for their wonderful designs.
Harrison- Best Handle Insulation  and Myles- Best Cooking Pot-  Overall

Claire- Most Creative Cooking Pot and Mitchell- Most Creative Name

My Favorite Part of the Week
My favorite part of the week was on Friday because we started a new unit in science. The new unit is about heat. Mrs. Rataiczak started off by giving us the thermometer and the three cups. The three cups were plastic, glass, and Styrofoam. While the water was boiling we did some of social studies. When the water was done boiling Mrs. Rataiczak  poured the hot water into each cup then one person at the learning club put the thermometer in each cup. The temperatures were all different in each cup. We waited 10 minutes and then we put the thermometer back in the cup to take the temperatures. After 10 more minutes we put the thermometer back in the cups and saw how much heat each cup lost. We learned how different materials lose and keep heat.

Sydney and Mason discuss the temperature of the water in the glass cup.
Gabe, Bennett, and Eslam discuss the temperature of the water in the plastic container.
